“What Is True Liberation?” # Brahma Sutras

🌿 Part 1 — Summary

Visible and Invisible Liberated Beings

This section clearly classifies the nature of liberated beings.
Not all liberated ones are the same —
they are understood in four categories.

🪔 Four Types of Liberated Ones

👁️ Visible Liberated Ones (2)

1️⃣ Ātmarāma

A jīvanmukta who rejoices in the Self

Does not display miracles

Has no need for interaction with the world

Possesses power but does not express it

👉 Why?
He has no purpose in the world — nothing to gain.

2️⃣ Ādhikārika

A jīvanmukta working under divine commission

Acts for the welfare of the world

Sometimes miracles may be seen

👉 Why?
Power manifests as part of divine work.

👁️‍🗨️ Invisible Liberated Ones (2)

3️⃣ Videhamukta

After jīvanmukti

When prārabdha ends

Leaves the body

Merges in Brahman

👉 Not visible
Because there is no body.

4️⃣ Nityamukta

Ever free

The Supreme Reality itself

👉 Always free
👉 Not visible

🔍 Main Question

Who displays miracles?

Conclusion 👇

Nityamukta → not visible

Videhamukta → not visible

Ātmarāma → does not display

Ādhikārika → may display

👉 Therefore
The one seen displaying miracles = Ādhikārika jīvanmukta

⚖️ Three Views on Powers

1️⃣ Liberated one possesses divine powers
2️⃣ Liberated one never displays powers
3️⃣ Powers may appear or not — both fine

👉 This debate becomes the foundation for later discussion.

🧠 Philosophical Core

Liberation is not
👉 the presence or absence of body

Liberation is
👉 absence of the sense of bondage

Hence

✔ Some appear
✔ Some do not

But
👉 Liberation is one.

🪷 One-line Essence

👉 Among visible liberated ones, the Ātmarāma remains inwardly absorbed,
while the Ādhikārika works for the world —
the invisible ones are the Videhamukta and the Nityamukta.

🌿 Part 2 — Summary

Divine Birth, Incarnation, and the World as Īśvara

This section explains two key ideas:

1️⃣ Difference between the birth of a jīva and divine incarnation
2️⃣ The non-dual vision that the world itself is Brahman

🪔 Birth vs Incarnation

For us → birth
For the Lord → incarnation

Jīva’s birth

Due to ignorance

Due to karma

Subject to death

Limited memory

Divine incarnation

Out of freedom

With full knowledge

No karma bondage

All births remembered

👉 Hence: “My birth and actions are divine.”

🧠 Brahman as a Mass of Consciousness

Upaniṣadic definition:

👉 Brahman = a solid mass of consciousness

Like a gold bar where every atom is gold,
in Brahman there is nothing but consciousness.

🔍 How to See the World

The great teaching:

👉 Do not search for God
👉 Examine the world

Because

🟢 World = Brahman
🟢 Individual = Brahman
🟢 Seer + Seen = Brahman

👉 This is the Advaitic vision.

⚖️ Do Attributes Really Exist?

Terms like “true desire” or “true resolve”

👉 do not mean qualities separate from Brahman

They are
👉 expressions of consciousness

Wave = water
Not different from it.

🌟 Final Insight

Brahman did not create the world —
Brahman appears as the world.

🪷 One-line Essence

👉 The jīva’s birth is bound by karma, the Lord’s incarnation is free;
the world is not separate from Brahman — it is His manifestation.

🌿 Part 3 — Summary

Jīva • World • Brahman — Non-dual Relationship

One truth appears in three ways:

🟣 As essence → Brahman
🔵 As name → Jīva
🟢 As form → World

🪔 Absolute vs Relative

When power is unmanifest → Non-dual
When manifest →

Name = mind (jīva)

Form = matter (world)

Mind & Matter = two faces of Awareness.

🌊 World as Divine Glory

“Everything belongs to the Lord.”

Life = a rented house
Death = vacating it

⚖️ Essence vs Manifestation

🟣 Essence → attributeless
🟢 Manifestation → world

No contradiction — two perspectives of one reality.

🧩 What is Advaita Practice?

World = fragments
Mind = fragments

👉 Bringing them into unity
is Advaitic realization.

🌌 Inner Space

The inner space of the heart
is as vast as the outer sky.

When mental limits dissolve →
boundlessness is experienced.

🪷 One-line Essence

👉 Brahman alone appears as jīva (name) and world (form);
when distinctions dissolve, the same consciousness shines as realization.

🌼 Part 4 — Summary

Saguna Attainment Is a Stage, Not Liberation

Miracles, powers, and yogic abilities

❌ are not liberation
✅ only intermediate states

🧭 Saguna vs Nirguna

Saguna → forms, bodies, powers
Nirguna → pure consciousness

Saguna states are temporary.

✨ Yogic Powers

Multiple bodies, miracles, subtle abilities

👉 possible
👉 real

But

👉 they are manifestations
👉 not the essence

⚖️ Final Verdict

These are
👉 results of saguna practice
👉 fruits of merit

🌌 Like Heaven

They are compared to heaven:

✔ Pleasant
✔ Elevated
✔ Temporary

Not ultimate freedom.

🔥 Why Not Liberation?

Because

Experience remains

Doership remains

Duality remains

Hence not Kaivalya.

🪔 True Liberation

No powers
No worlds
No experiencer

Only pure consciousness.

🌟 Final Conclusion

Miracles, heavens, powers —
all are stages

True freedom =
🟣 Knowledge of Nirguna Brahman

🪷 One-line Essence

👉 Powers and heavenly states gained through saguna practice are temporary;
only knowledge of Nirguna Brahman is complete liberation.

Om Shanti Shanti Shanti 🙏
