"Tat Tvam Asi — You Are That Reality”#Brahma Sutra
🌿 Part 1 — Expanded Summary
Ātmārāmas and Ādhikārika Puruṣas
Two Types of Jīvanmuktas
Om Namo Gurubhyaḥ 🙏
This section clearly explains a very important point —
not all liberated beings (jīvanmuktas) live in the same way.
Their lives express themselves in two primary modes:
👉 Ātmārāmas
👉 Ādhikārika Puruṣas
Both are liberated.
But their way of living is different.
🧭 Who is an Ādhikārika?
An Ādhikārika is
👉 a liberated being entrusted with a divine responsibility.
It is like a divine deputation.
He continues activities such as:
👉 welfare of the world
👉 establishment of dharma
👉 teaching of scriptures
Until when?
👉 Until prārabdha karma is exhausted
How long is prārabdha?
👉 No one can say
👉 It may last even for ages
The Sun is given as an example —
he too holds a long cosmic office.
So an Ādhikārika is
👉 liberated
👉 yet functioning under divine commission
🪷 Who is an Ātmārāma?
If the Ādhikārika has a duty,
who has none?
👉 They are Ātmārāmas
This is the second type of jīvanmukta.
An Ātmārāma is one who
👉 delights in the Self
👉 has no need for engagement with the world
As described in the Gītā:
👉 rejoicing in the Self
👉 satisfied in the Self
👉 content in the Self
Such a one
👉 has nothing to accomplish
🌄 Life of an Ātmārāma
He lives
👉 silently
👉 often in seclusion
👉 with no special interest in worldly affairs
He
❌ neither seeks anything
❌ nor rejects anything
A life beyond acceptance and rejection.
He simply lives
until prārabdha ends.
🔥 Life of an Ādhikārika
He too is liberated, but
👉 remains established in Brahman
👉 continues action
Why?
👉 in the spirit of yajña
👉 for the welfare of the world
Not personal desire —
but divine function.
⚖️ Why does action not bind him?
Normally action binds because of:
👉 doership
👉 enjoyership
But for him:
👉 no sense of “I act”
👉 no claim over results
Therefore
👉 action dissolves
👉 results dissolve
🪞 Key Insight
Liberation is one —
ways of living are two:
🟢 Ātmārāma → inward life
🔵 Ādhikārika → world-engaged life
Both are equally free.
🌿 Part 2 — Summary
Post-Knowledge Powers, Upāsanā, and True Liberation
This section resolves a subtle doubt:
Why do some realized beings display powers
while others do not?
🧭 Meaning of “Jñānāntara”
It means:
👉 knowledge is present
👉 but impressions of upāsanā remain
Thus
👉 powers may manifest
⚡ Why do powers arise?
Scriptural clarity:
👉 Powers are not the result of Brahma-jñāna
👉 They are results of upāsanā
They are temporary.
🔥 Yoga vs Knowledge
🟢 Yoga → powers
🔵 Knowledge → liberation
🌸 True Liberation
Only Brahma-jñāna
👉 burns karma seeds
👉 ends rebirth
🪷 One-line essence
Powers are temporary;
knowledge alone gives final freedom.
🌿 Part 3 — Expanded Summary
The Four Dissolutions (Pralayas) and Liberation
Liberation is described through four types of dissolution.
1️⃣ Nitya Pralaya — Deep Sleep
Temporary dissolution — not final freedom.
2️⃣ Naimittika Pralaya — Conditional dissolution
Form ends, ignorance remains.
3️⃣ Prākṛta Pralaya — Dissolution of guṇas
A transitional state (krama-mukti).
4️⃣ Ātyantika Pralaya — Absolute dissolution
Ignorance destroyed — final liberation.
🧭 Final conclusion
Only Brahma-jñāna gives absolute liberation.
🌼 Part 4 — Expanded Summary
Tat Tvam Asi and Non-dual Realization
This section revolves around one central truth:
👉 You are Brahman — now
🪔 Meaning of Tat Tvam Asi
Not
❌ you will become
But
✅ you are
It is recognition, not attainment.
🧠 Being vs Becoming
You are not becoming Brahman —
you are already That.
Ignorance alone creates the appearance of individuality.
🌟 Result of realization
Immediate fruit:
👉 Sarvātmatva (all-self identity)
🌸 What is liberation?
Not a new state —
abidance in one’s true nature.
🪷 Final one-line essence
Tat Tvam Asi is not a promise of the future —
it is the recognition of your present reality.
🕉️ Final Essence of All Four Parts
👉 Liberation is the recognition that you are ever the Self;
whether one lives silently or serves the world,
freedom is complete.
Om Shanti Shanti Shantih🙏
