🌿 PART 1 — ESSENCE

The Life of a Jīvanmukta — Bādhitānuvṛtti (The Appearance that Continues After Negation)

🧭 Central Idea

The life of a liberated sage (Jīvanmukta) continues with a unique feature:

👉 Bādhitānuvṛtti

Meaning:

👉 The world appears to continue
👉 But in the sage’s vision it is already negated — merely an appearance

Not a bondage.

For a knower of Brahman:

✔ No Sanchita Karma (accumulated karma)
✔ No Āgāmi Karma (future karma)

Then —

👉 Does Prārabdha also not exist?

Scriptural conclusion:

❌ To deny Prārabdha completely is an overreach
✅ As long as the body exists, Prārabdha appears

Because the body itself is the upādhi (limiting adjunct).


🌌 The Wonder of a Jīvanmukta

The sage:

✔ Sees the world as an appearance
✔ Experiences himself as pure consciousness

But to others:

👉 He is still visible
👉 Eating, speaking, walking are seen

Thus:

👉 Inner freedom
👉 Outer transaction

Both coexist simultaneously.


🧠 Why Pure Consciousness Is Not Seen

Brahman is:

👉 Formless
👉 All-pervasive awareness

It cannot appear like an object.

Therefore:

👉 The realization is inward
👉 Externally only the body is perceived.


🪷 Gauḍapāda’s Expression — Chalāchala Niketaḥ

The Jīvanmukta abides in both:

👉 The unmoving — Brahman
👉 The moving — bodily life

Established in both —
That is the secret of living liberation.


🍚 Practical Question — Does a Sage Feel Hunger?

✔ Yes — hunger belongs to the body
✔ But the sage sees it as an appearance

Like raindrops on a mirror — wiped without leaving a mark.

⚖️ Jīvanmukti vs Videhamukti

Subtle truth:

👉 Jīvanmukti — liberation while living
👉 Videhamukti — total freedom after the fall of the body

Thus the Upaniṣadic idea:

👉 “Being liberated, he becomes fully liberated.”

Jīvanmukti is tasting liberation while alive.


🪞 Brahma-Nishta and Worldly Life

A sage’s life alternates between:

👉 Abidance in Brahman
👉 Engagement in the world

Yet knowledge never fades.

Hence the idea of Pratyabhijñā — recognition again and again.


🧩 Two Simultaneous Understandings

The sage knows:

👉 “I am Brahman”
👉 “The body exists”

This is not contradiction —
It is natural coexistence.



🔥 Why Does the Sage Appear to Fall or Suffer?

Not due to:

❌ Ignorance
❌ Vasanas

But only due to Prārabdha —
Like a reserved seat lasting till the journey ends.


🌙 The Sleep Analogy

Daily:

👉 In sleep everything disappears
👉 On waking everything reappears

Nothing was lost.

Similarly:

👉 The sage’s realization is continuous.


🕯️ Meaning of Bādhitānuvṛtti

👉 The world — negated
👉 Yet experientially continuing

Like a burnt cloth —
Form remains, strength gone.

🪔 The Authority of a Jīvanmukta

Brahma-sūtra idea:

👉 Yāvad-adhikāram avasthitiḥ

The sage remains in the body until his role is complete:

✔ Teaching
✔ Writing
✔ Silence
✔ Meditation

Not bondage —
A divine function.


🌟 Life of the Liberated One

He:

✔ Lives fearlessly
✔ Remains equal in pleasure and pain
✔ Sees Brahman everywhere

Knowledge is the constant antidote.

Do Knowers of Brahman Take Birth? — The Secret of Divine Functionaries

If Brahma-jñāna gives liberation,
why do scriptures show sages taking birth?

Vyāsa, Vasiṣṭha, Nārada, Sanatkumāra —
they seem to appear again.

Is knowledge:

👉 A complete cause of liberation?

These are not ordinary births.

They are Adhikārika Puruṣas —
divinely commissioned beings.

They assume bodies:

Powers like:

👉 Not indicators of realization

Knowledge alone liberates.


🔥 Destruction of Karma

Knowledge burns karma seeds
like roasted seeds that never sprout.

Prārabdha continues like an arrow already released.


🌌 True Kaivalya

Not powers
Not miracles

👉 Dissolution of ego
👉 End of ignorance

That alone is liberation.

👉 Siddhis are flowers on the path; Self-knowledge alone is liberation.

✨ The world may appear — but bondage need not
✨ Action may occur — but doership dissolves

✨ Knowledge burns the seed of rebirth

Liberation is not attainment —

👉 When knowledge dawns, life continues but bondage ends — that is Jīvanmukti, that is Kaivalya.
